Collection: Mead (Honey Wine)
WHAT IS MEAD?
In the simplest terms, it's honey wine. It is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages and can have very simple ingredients: just honey and water fermented by yeast. Complexity is often added to mead by adding fruits, grains, spices, and hops.
Honey wine may offer many beneficial properties due to it's star ingredent... honey, of course! It offers anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory benefits, immuse support, and help with gastrointestinal issues. While the fermentation process might reduce their levels, mead still retains some of these beneficial nutrients.
WHAT DOES MEAD TASTE LIKE?
Mead's flavor profile is as diverse as it is delightful, offering a range of tastes from dry to sweet, mirroring the versatility of its main ingredient, honey. At its core, mead is fermented honey, but the final product can vary widely in taste, depending on the specific methods and ingredients used in its creation. Traditional meads, made purely from honey, water, and yeast, tend to have a prominent honey flavor, showcasing the rich and floral notes of the honey used. These traditional varieties often resemble white wine in their taste and appearance, offering a spectrum from dry to sweet (even similar to sherry) based on the fermentation process and the amount of honey left unfermented in the final product.
There are many different types of mead, depending on what was added: See guide for details
